I Am a Zucchinista! August 17, 2006

Inspired by the call to arms issued by the enigmatically named Green Mountain of the Zucchini Liberation Army (ZLA), I have formed the Zucchini Army of National Liberation (the Ejército Zucchini de Liberación Nacional, or EZLN, popularly known as the Zucchinistas).  Our mission is to struggle for the rights of oppressed zucchini everywhere—especially in our kitchen, where they are subjected to ZGirl’s cruel tyranny.  We shall liberate these courgettes so that they may grow free once again.

You may now call me…Subcomandante Calabacín!

I’m all for empowering oppressed groups and all, but here’s what I have to say about your so-called EZLN–Kiss my zucchini-lovin’ ass.

Send those zucchini to the blender. I shall make a paste of you!

So does this mean you don’t like ratatouille? Come on, everybody likes ratatouille!

We called them courgettes in England. What if zgirl prepared courgettes for you? Would you eat a courgette?

Right now, I couldn’t blend zucchini even if I wanted to–I destroyed our blender while trying to make frozen mango margaritas. Bummer.

I have never eaten this ratatouille of which you speak. Looking at the ingredient list, however, I see that it also includes eggplant. Thus, I doubt that I would like it. Nor, I suspect, would the Eggplant Popular Front.

Zucchini, zucchini, wherefore art thou, zucchini? Would a zucchini by any other name taste so bad?

Yup.

It’s not just zucchini and eggplant that Snow Monkey doesn’t like. It’s also most other vegetables. Here’s the list of vegetables that he will willingly eat: lettuce (and sometimes baby spinach), red and green peppers, onions, bean sprouts, white potatoes, and water chestnuts.

Hey, I also like yellow peppers and orange peppers. And gold taters and red taters (but are those vegetables or tubers?) And many others that I can’t recollect at this moment.
